POKER VOTERS of America (PVA) president and founder Jim Tabilio has resigned, leaving the online poker lobby group looking for a new leader.
Tabilio (pictured) is leaving to become a private sector lobbyist, advising gaming industry clients, governments and regulatory agencies on public policy gaming solutions.
However Poker Voters of America’s proposal to deliver intrastate online poker in California by 2010 remains on track, PVOA executive director Melanie Brenner told EGRmagazine.com.
A report assessing the impacts of legalising online poker on Florida arising from a PVOA-sponsored bill is also due in December.
Tabilio formed the online poker lobby group two years ago to spearhead efforts to legalise and regulate online poker at the intrastate level in the US, under an explicit intrastate exemption contained within the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA).
Tabilio said: “We’ve made significant progress. Now it’s time to build on that progress and help the industry and the states create systems that protect players, generate maximum income for the regulating jurisdiction and provide sustainable and profitable business models to benefit both operators and the states.”
Melanie Brenner confirmed that Tabilio will continue to provide PVOA with advice “on a pro bono basis.” The PVOA board expects to name Tabilio’s successor within the next two months.
