EWS follows Betfair with US Breeders' Cup pools tie

EUROPEAN WAGERING SERVICES (EWS), the pari-mutuel operation of AIM-listed Webis Holdings, will offer wagering direct into the Breeders’ Cup pools this Friday and Saturday through its Link2Bet website.
International players will be able to bet into all the bet types offered, including the Pick 6 and the two new special bets, the Jockeys Challenge and the Classic Double.
Wagers can be placed online and through EWS’ Isle of Man-based Call Centre.
EWS chief operating officer Ed Comins said: “Last years Breeders’ Cup was our biggest handle [turnover] weekend of the year, with many players cashing in on the superb European results. This year that may even increase, with the Europeans currently favourites in at least five of the races.”
The EWS arrangement follows a similar deal signed last month between the Breeder’s Cup and Betfair, allowing Betfair customers to bet directly into US tote pools, and also allowing Betfair to stream the races live online.
Both deals are designed to boost ‘common [international] pool’ betting on the Cup races from overseas, in particular from Europe, which will provide several of the race’s contenders.
Just over US$17m (£10.2m) was bet into the US pools from abroad at last year’s Breeders’ Cup meeting, of which EWS claims to be responsible for around 5%.
