Bet365 founders lead egaming Rich List
Peter and Denise Coates again named richest gambling operators in the United Kingdom " family is worth more than Paul McCartney.
Bet365 founders Peter and Denise Coates have dropped two places in this year’s edition of the Sunday Times Rich List, but remain the richest individuals in gaming after their fortune rose £50m, giving them a net worth of £800m.
The Coates fell to 92nd place in the list, alongside the likes of Lord Sugar and Roger and Peter De Haan, founders of Saga Group. They are followed by Betfred founders Fred and Peter Done, who are ranked in 112th place for the second year running with a worth of £700m.
The Done brothers were placed alongside PartyGaming founders Ruth Parasol and Russell DeLeon, whose net worth dropped £33m, causing them to fall from 97th place. However, they remain ahead of the likes of Paul McCartney and Andrew Lloyd-Webber. PartyGaming’s former marketing director Vikrant Bhargava, who oversaw the launch of PartyPoker, was also ranked on the list with a fortune of £230m.
Despite leaving PartyGaming in 2006, Bhargava’s fortune still surpasses that of Victor Chandler, whose £160m worth saw him placed alongside Ringo Starr in 462nd, ahead of Betfair’s Ed Wray and Andrew Black. The exchange betting operator’s founders were ranked in 620nd and 682nd place respectively, with net worth of £123m and £110m.
The annual list of Britain’s richest residents named steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal the richest man in the country with a worth of £12.7bn, despite a £4.8bn drop in his fortune.
