Teufelberger released after Belgian questioning
bwin.party co-CEO is invited to offer an explanation of operator's activities on 17 December.
Norbert Teufelberger, co-CEO of bwin.party, has been released by Belgian authorities and is now “on his way home” after being questioned this afternoon on the operator’s activities in the EU country.
The Austrian had been detained this afternoon following his appearance at the European Gaming and Betting Association’s (EGBA) Responsible Gaming Day, after giving his closing speech in his role as EGBA chairman.
Following his release, Teufelberger has agreed to convene the board of the operator in order for a formal decision to be made over whether to continue serving customers in the country where two of its dot.com domains are blacklisted.
If bwin.party opts to remain active in the Belgian egaming market without a licence then the co-CEO will be invited to issue an explanation, with the operator’s rationale then being passed on to Belgian authorities.
Bwin.party issued a statement earlier today, explaining: “[Teufelberger] was requested to attend an interview with the Belgium authorities. He complied voluntarily with this request and is co-operating fully with the authorities.”
A spokesman for the operator confirmed that Teufelberger was on his way home and told eGaming Review that bwin.party would be releasing a further statement tomorrow.
